A proud 5byAge5 partner

Parents as Teachers facilitates parent success through their internationally recognized home visiting model, the largest model of its kind in the United States. The national organization is located in St. Louis and its direct service affiliate, Show Me Strong Families, delivers services in the collaborative footprint.

Each family is assigned a trained Parent Educator who partners with families to deliver the four component model including:

  1. Persona family visits, most often in the home where parents are most comfortable.  Information is shared during visits pertaining to individual family interests and guided by the Parents as Teachers curriculum.
  2. Group connections, which are planned events, such as family activities, ongoing parenting groups, or presentations, facilitated by a Parent Educator to share information about parenting and child development.  Group connections are also designed to encourage families to share common experiences and to foster peer learning.
  3. Health, hearing, vision, and developmental screenings for children; and
  4. Resource connections including linkages and connections for families to needed resources such as basic household needs, diapers, formula, employment and healthcare resources.

Parents as Teachers supports families with children prenatal through kindergarten completion and families are able to enroll at any point on the continuum. On average, visits are offered every other week or once a month depending on the needs of the family. In addition to the four component model, Parents as Teachers also offers a robust Doula program to pregnant mothers.
