Debut: Teaching in Room 9

Beginning TODAY, Nine Network is launching "Teaching in Room 9". Two hours of literacy and math instruction for students, Pre-K through fourth grade, will be broadcast weekdays from 12:30–2:30 pm, free of charge on Nine PBS.

The grade-appropriate lessons, taught by committed educators from across our region at home, ensure area kids have access to quality teaching during this academic year shutdown and into the summer, regardless of access to internet or computers. All you need is a pencil and paper.

12:30-1:00 p.m. - Reading, PreK-1st Grade
1:00-1:30 p.m. - Reading, 2nd-4th Grade
1:30-2:00 p.m. - Math, PreK-1st Grade
2:00-2:30 p.m. - Math, 2nd-4th Grade

In addition, PBS KIDS® shows and resources are perfectly positioned for your family's at-home learners.

Nine PBS KIDS' content provides teaching opportunities for families with or without internet or connected devices. Learning goals appear before every kids’ show, and we’re broadcasting content for middle and high school students on Nine World from 11 am–4 pm.

Our on-air, online and social resources are making a difference. “I have ended the week feeling pretty great that we are moving forward to help the kids in our region because of you and your team at the Nine Network,” says Kristen Sorth, director, St. Louis County Library, who we also interviewed about the library’s services during the pandemic (find the interview on Nine’s YouTube channel).

Our Educator and Caregiver Toolkit, available at nineNet.org/learningtoolkit, includes a two-week schedule of kids shows, along with learning goals and related activities and resources. The toolkit was created with guidance from education leaders across the region. It has broadcast, online, and mobile resources, as well as learning tools and tips that can be text messaged to phones.
